Despite the signs being erected about town in the past week, the Vermillion Area Farmers Market will be starting its regular season on Thursday, May 21st from 3-7pm.
The Cherry Street Reconstruction crew has been erecting those signs, and the parameters for the sign order were limited to four words. So, we went with “Farmers Market Thursdays 3-7pm.” No room for dates, unfortunately.
Sorry for any confusion! The VAFM Board is meeting this weekend to go over final details of the vendor contract, EBT program, and market manager position. If you’re a past vendor, you’ll be getting a contract in the mail next week. If you’d like to be a vendor, please contact me with your snail mail address, and I’ll send you one!

The Vermillion Area Farmers Market received word today that we have been awarded matching grant funding through the SD Department of Agriculture Market Grower Grant program.
The VAFM grant project was titled “VAFM Easy-Payment Project,” and will use the grant funds along with in-kind contributions to purchase equipment, pay fees, and advertise their EBT/debit card purchase option program at the 2009 market starting on Thursday, May 21.
Thanks to the Market Board for help with the grant-writing process, and to the USDA and SD Dept. of Agriculture for funding and support. Thanks also to Sandra Vanneman at the SD Dept. of Social Services for her help with logistics.
