Are you in the Vermillion, South Dakota area and do you have a big asparagus patch?
Customers at the Vermillion Area Farmers Market are paying up to $3/lb. for fresh local asparagus harvested the same day. Those of us with small amounts to sell are unable to keep up with demand.
Please consider coming to sell your fresh local asparagus at our Thursday market!

If you are a regular VAFM vendor, and you would like to be able to post news about when you’ll be at our market and what you’re bringing (you can also post about what other markets you may be attending), please contact Rebecca at organicpeas(AT)hotmail(DOT) com, and I’ll help you get set up to do so.
You’ll need to sign up at WordPress.com (“sign up for a free blog”), and then click on “just a username” in order for me to be able to add you as an author. In other words, you don’t have to have your own WordPress blog to participate in ours, but you do need to be registered in the WordPress system. All you need for that is an e-mail address.
Please only contact me about this if you are, or are planning to be a vendor at the Vermillion Area Farmers Market this season.

Just an update to my previous post about the market manager position.
We have two well-seasoned (did that come out right?) Board Members who will serve as market managers for the first week or two of the market, and we have three or four interested and promising applicants for the season-long position who will be stopping by/training tomorrow at the opening of the market.
Thanks for the response!
And–
See you at the market!

With two days to go until the market starts, all of our possibilities for market managers have fallen through. We need a responsible, personable person to fill this position.
Pay is $1000. Half up front; half at the middle of the season. It’s a contract position, so you’re responsible for reporting to the IRS.
Responsibilities include being physically present at the market every Thursday starting May 21 through October 22. Hours are 3-7pm–the manager should get there at least 15 minutes early and will likely need to stay for 15-20 minutes afterward.
The market manager sets up our wooden signs (a pick-up or hatchback vehicle is helpful), helps vendors set up and anchor their pop-up tents, sets up the market manager’s pop-up, passes out and collects contracts, and collects vendor dues. They also keep the money bag and help out with change if a vendor runs out of ones or quarters.
This year, the manager also needs to run the wireless POS device for debit and EBT transactions. It’s quite easy, but it’s important to be accurate and keep all the receipts so we can accurately reimburse our vendors at the close of market. One or more board members will be on-site to troubleshoot.
We’d like a person who is neat in appearance (it’s a farmers market–so basically wear clean clothes, a shirt, no bikinis), friendly, and responsible. If you are interested in the position and know that you’ll be available Thursdays through the season–please call me (Rebecca) at 202-0252 or e-mail organicpeas@hotmail.com.

Not as good as “the check’s in the mail,” but I did send out the first round of VAFM vendor contracts this afternoon. If you’ve sold with us in the past couple of years (or you contacted me already to ask for a contract), chances are you’ll be getting one by the end of the week.
If you are interested in selling with us this year and would like me to e-mail or snail-mail you a copy of our vendor contract and rules & regs, please shoot me (Rebecca) an e-mail at organicpeas(AT)hotmail(DOT)com.
Market starts May 21st at 3pm! Hope to see you then!
